Build it and they will come
One of the bigger complaints of this city is the lack of entertainment. This city has even been tagged as “No Fun City” by some. Well it looks like that is all changing.
In the past major concerts have bypassed Vancouver with Seattle being the closest city that many had to travel to to see big acts. We wallowed in a pop filled clubs while those in Toronto got every and any act that launches a tour.
Wallow no more.
First it was the Police who chose Vancouver as their locale to warm up in and then launch a tour. Then it was the, ahem, Spice Girls. Now Janet Jackson has announced that she ill kick off her new world tour in Vancouver. Even Madonna is going to come here for the first time ever (even if she’s not kicking it off here that is big news for many).
So what has held Vancouver back for so many acts? It can’t be the venues or the demand. Maybe we were just not top of mind in the past. Looks like that has changed.
Good.
Vancouver, BC

My suspicion as to why we are getting bigger name artists coming here to launch or stopover on their tours is that the music industry is finally taking notice that Vancouver is a world class city. Our reputation as a world class city started with Expo 86 and it continues with the coming 2010 Winter Olympics. Combine that with better venues like GM Place and a growing and diversifying population and it’s not surprising that the music industry is taking notice.
