What a Week

posted in Life |

Talk about a rollercoaster of a week. You know, one way to see if I am busy or being absolutely run off my feet is to see the number of blog posts that are being done. In the past week I’ve had time for one. One lonely post. That was for the stats released by the board and I will always make time for that because I know how much you all enjoy seeing them. But aside from that? I have had zero free time.

Multiple clients and several offers later I have found some time to reflect on the past week. Lots of local news to get to.

Hollow TreeOne big story in the city is that the famed “Hollow Tree” of Stanley Park (one of the most photographed trees in the world) is coming down. It is just too dangerous to leave up even with suspension cables. Many are saddened by this but I say that that is just the circle of life. Or is it? You see, they plan to turn it into some monument by laying it on its side just like they did with another tree near the Rowing Club entrance to the park. Both trees were victims of the wind storms of 2006. Let’s get real though. They are trees. Trees grow up and trees come down. Sure, they stand longer than most humans on this earth (unless we take a chainsaw to them) but they are just trees. Why so much sentimental attachment? Because this is Vancouver and we love our trees. Really, really love our trees. Even if they do need suspension cables to hold them up. So long Hollow Tree, we’ll always have our Flickr photos.

In other news, the Canucks wrapped up a tough year by having only one inspiring gameLinden out of their last eight. If there are any standouts from the past two weeks of abysmal play, where they went from challenging for the division to failing to make the playoffs, they would be Luongo having a baby girl (that must have been the distraction that got him pulled from the pre-daddy and post-daddy games) and Trevor Linden putting in two goals in a much needed (at the time) win against Calgary. Tonight is likely Linden’s last night in the NHL. So long Trevor, we need more players with a heart and devotion like yours.

And finally, this is good, Battlestar Galactica has returned for their fourth and final season.  If you have never watched this show you have no idea what you are missing.  It out Wests the West Wing, out sci-fi’s Star Trek, and out FX’s many movies.  It is must see TV.  Plus, it is filmed in and around Vancouver so you get to play spot the location (hint: VPL Central Branch, Gastown, Lions Bay, Delta, and SFU are very popular backdrops).  One devoted fan has put together a GoogleMap of the locations for you: Battlestar Galactica Map
