A Couple of Site Changes

Hey everyone!  I’ve made a couple of changes to the site.  All of them were to make it easier for you to communicate with me.

If you look to the right, in the sidebar, just under my contact info you will see a cute little blue bird.  Clicking that will link you to my Twitter account and, if you wish, you can start following my updates there.  Twitter is an absolutely fantastic tool that combines something like instant messaging and micro-blogging.  You’ll notice that some of my very short posts have a tag “Twitter” because I posted them through that service.  I can also easily post on the fly from my phone so when I’m in the field and see something of interest then I generally tweet it.  Trust me, once you enter the world of twitter you will get hooked.  If you do not have an account I recommend you get one and start following some of the fantastic people both here and around the world.

The other change you’ll see is a chat badge.  I used to have an embedded chat window there but it had a couple of issues that made usability a hassle.  The first was that if you changed to a new page you would lose the conversation.  The second was that if I was away then you could not leave a message for me.  This new chat badge will launch a pop up chat client for you and if I am online then we can chat.  If I’m “away” or offline, then you can leave a message and I can get back to you.  If you have a pop-up blocker then you will have to give it special permission to allow the pop-up.  Sorry, but that is the only way (right now) that it can be done effectively.

Give them both a try and let me know what you think.
