This is just too cool. Many times clients are looking for a property in an area and have been limited to searching by such simplistic terms as “Downtown Westside” or “Downtown Eastside”. Trouble is that both cover a very large area and right in the middle, straddling both is the much desired Gastown. So you’d search and you’d sift. Of course, we realtors had better tools to define searches, but that is neither here nor there. And it no longer matters.
From today you all have the same power when it comes to defining search areas. My VOW provider (MyRealPage) has upgraded us all to include “GoogleMap”. This means you can actually predefine an area by drawing on the map, be it simple like a circle (say you want to live only so far from work) or more complicated like a polygon (perfect for defining an area like Main or Gastown which straddles two areas or Yaletown Proper (which is a very small few blocks of heritage buildings and does not, in fact, include any highrises across the street no matter what neighbourhood branding”

Would you like to see an example of the search results?

This is just very cool and I hope you get some benefit out of it. No other property search I’ve seen in the Vancouver area comes even close. Of course, if you have any comments or questions please I’d love to hear them.

Wow, all I can say is VERY COOL! This highlighting feature is perfect for selecting the exact neighbourhood(s) that one is interested in looking at for real estate listings. I love what they doing with Google Maps in general; another great application that comes to mind is the TransLink integration including their transportation portal, http://www.i-move.ca. Great to have the feature included in probably one of the most useful features on your site – cheers!
